KPop Demon Hunters: Netflix’s Meteoric Hit Tops Charts in 26 Countries

Since its Netflix debut on June 20, K-Pop Demon Hunters has become a global sensation. In its fifth week on the platform, the animated musical reached a new height of 25.8 million views, marking the first Netflix film ever to peak that late in its run.

It has now spent five consecutive weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 and holds the number 1 spot in 26 countries this week alone, remaining in the Top 10 across 93 nations.

Directed by Korean-American Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, with a screenplay co-written by Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, the film tells the story of Huntr/x, a fierce K-pop girl group that doubles as demon hunters, opposing their sinister rival, the Saja Boys.

Its vibrant fusion of Korean mythology, high-glam idol visuals, and electrifying fight choreography has struck a chord with audiences worldwide.

Much of the buzz stems from its original soundtrack. The standout track “Golden” by Huntr/x topped the Billboard Global 200 and US Spotify daily charts, while “Your Idol” from the Saja Boys hit #1 on Spotify US, surpassing real-world K‑pop giants like BTS and Blackpink.

The album debuted on the Billboard 200 and climbed to #3, becoming the highest-charting animated soundtrack of 2025 and Netflix’s first to reach the Top 10 for nearly two years.

Critics and fans alike praise the film for its bold style, cultural authenticity, and emotional storytelling. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of around 95%, the film has been celebrated for incorporating Asian American voices and Korean cultural elements into the global mainstream animation.

Despite no official sequel announcement yet, director and cast interviews hint at lingering story threads and growing fan demand, suggesting a follow-up is likely in the works. KPop Demon Hunters isn’t just a hit, it’s a cultural landmark, blending K‑pop and animation in a way that is reshaping how global audiences engage with both genres.
